Third at IRONMAN 70.3 Barcelona, after Frodeno and Clavel, I can live with that! 7 weeks after IRONMAN South Africa and with yet 8 weeks to go until IRONMAN Frankfurt, this race fell exactly in the middle of 2 peak moments. Thanks to the strong field of participants and selective track in and around Calella, this race was again a very nice one.
The aim of this IRONMAN 70.3 was to create some extra stimulation of speed and resistance. The swim (11th place) and run (1h17 and 7th place) show that there is still some work on my starting speed. That is not illogical after my IRONMAN preparation. In both disciplines I immediately lost touch with the leaders, without losing too much time. The bike, on the other hand, went very smooth (fastest bike time)! I could easily compensate for the distance I lost in the water. In the numerous climbs I was able to determine the speed in the leading group, so that is quite OK.
In the run-up to the IRONMAN European Championship in Frankfurt (July 5), 2 milestones are remaining. On June 7, I will start in IRONMAN 5150 Kraichgau (GER), a race over the quarter distance. As from June 8, I am on an altitude training camp in Font Romeu up to and including July 1st.
