IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside 2013

Hi,

This weekend I did my 2nd race (70.3 Ironman) of the season in Oceanside, California. A 8th place was my result and I'm pretty happy with that. After my victory in Abu Dhabi, 4 weeks ago, I took the time to recover and after that I trained 2 weeks in Phoenix to prepare for this race. The race started with a good swim and after a bad transition it took me a couple of miles to get in the leading group.

Only one athlete, Boecherer, managed to escape and I stayed with the leading group of 15 athletes. The pace was really high, I averaged 326 Watts on my SRM.

After a good 2nd transition I started the half marathon with the later winner, Andy Potss, but soon enough I felt the pace was too high for me and I settled into my own rhythm.I felt back to a 13th place but with only 4km to go I caught 5 athletes and I finished 8th. It's obvious that a half Ironman turns out to be a short race for me and I need the miles :-)
