VICTORY AT ALPE D'HUEZ

"What a tough race", I was thinking this all day long....

Nobody expected an easy race on such a course, including the heat it was one of the toughest races I've ever done. On the other hand it was one of the most beautiful races as well, I really enjoyed the suffering at this mythical place!

I could exit the water in 2nd position. Once on the bike my plan was to push the pedals hard from the start as the first part of the bike course suits me best. This strategy offered me a good advantage to start the last climb, l'Alpe d'Huez. I've done this climb several times before and I knew it's not an easy task to get to the top fresh and ready to start a 20 km run... A steady and solid pace (not too fast) on this final climb was necessary to have a successful race.

During the final 20 km run at the ski resort (1800m altitude) it was clear that my race plan was correct, I could maintain a good pace despite the various climbs and descents.

Winning on Alpe d'Huez --> bucket list --> check!
