VICTORY (NR. 5) AT IRONMAN FRANCE

I cannot describe how happy I am with this victory, the 5th here in Nice. No need to mention this is one of the most iconic races in triathlon. Seeing my name 5 times on that victory list is just a dream come true.

From the start of the race I had a good feeling, leading the chase pack in the swim gave me already a first confidence boost. I could easily develop a good pace in the choppy Mediterranean Sea. 

The bike leg announced to be hard since a lot of excellent riders were in the pack. At about 100 km Cameron Wurf joined us and immediately left us behind. He was just too strong on the bike, even though we were riding a fast pace. 

As you've seen I played my cards on the run, from the start I had a really good feeling. My first half marathon in 1:19 felt great and at that moment I knew I could hold a fast pace until the finish. 

Number 5 in the books, equal to the record of Marcel Zamora, so I need to come back next year. ;-)
